Reaching the climax of the main storyline in No Man's Sky presents players with one of the game's most pivotal narrative choices: whether to reset the simulation. At the end of The Purge storyline, travelers are brought face to face with the Atlas and tasked with deciding the fate of the universe. Understanding the different galaxy options and preparing for the immediate consequences ensures a smooth transition into your next cosmic chapter.

The Four Galaxy Types You Can Choose

Choosing to reset the simulation presents you with four distinct colored orbs, each representing a specific type of galaxy. The Red orb leads to a Harsh galaxy with more aggressive environments, while the Blue orb opens the door to an Ancestral galaxy focused on unique biomes. Selecting the Green orb transports you to a Lush galaxy such as Eissentam, which is the most popular choice due to its abundance of paradise planets.

Alternatively, selecting the Teal orb places you in a Normal galaxy setting similar to the starting Euclid universe. Each selection permanently dictates which realm becomes your new starting ground for deep space exploration.

What Happens Immediately After Resetting

Once your choice is made, you will awaken on a brand-new planet inside your chosen galaxy. However, the physical toll of traveling through the Atlas interface damages all active technology installed in your Exosuit, Starship, and Multi-Tool. You will need to collect local resources or use repair kits to fix critical components like launch thrusters and life support systems.

To avoid extensive repairs, experienced players equip a spare starship and multi-tool right before initiating the reset. Uninstalling main exosuit technology modules beforehand also protects valuable upgrades from breaking.

Managing Your Bases and Returning to Euclid

Resetting the simulation does not erase your previously earned assets or wipe your established bases. All of your base structures, freighters, and accumulated units remain completely intact in your save file. You can easily return to any base in the Euclid galaxy at any time by accessing a space station or teleporter terminal.

It is vital to build a basic base computer or visit a local space station in your new galaxy right away. Doing so registers the new galaxy in your teleporter network so you can travel freely back and forth between realms.

What Happens If You Choose Not to Reset

If you prefer to stay in the original Euclid galaxy, you can simply refuse the Atlas during the final encounter. Choosing not to reset allows you to complete the main storyline without dealing with broken equipment or moving galaxies. You can still reach other galaxies manually by warping to the galactic center, giving you full control over your ongoing journey.
