In Hollow Knight, Fragile Charms offer some of the most powerful passive stat boosts in the game, but their tendency to break upon defeat makes them risky to rely on during tough boss encounters. Fortunately, players can upgrade these temporary items into permanent assets that never break upon death. Understanding how to unlock this transformation allows adventuring Knights to keep their best builds active without constant repair trips.
Locating Divine in Dirtmouth
To begin upgrading your Fragile Charms, you must first summon the Grimm Troupe DLC content by lighting the Nightmare Lantern in Howling Cliffs. Once the troupe arrives in Dirtmouth, a mysterious NPC named Divine sets up her tent right next to the main performance tent. Speaking with Divine while equipping a Fragile Charm prompts her to eat the item in exchange for a future upgrade.
Earning the Required Geo Costs
Transforming these items into unbreakable variants requires a massive financial investment of Geo. Upgrading Fragile Heart costs 12,000 Geo, Fragile Greed requires 9,000 Geo, and Fragile Strength costs a whopping 15,000 Geo. Players can farm Geo efficiently by defeating foes in the Colosseum of Fools or selling collected relics to Relic Seeker Lemm in the City of Tears.
Keeping Charms Equipped and Safe
Once you pay Divine her requested fee, she returns the upgraded Unbreakable Charm directly into your inventory. These new versions function identically to their fragile counterparts but can be kept equipped permanently without fear of shattering after defeat. Additionally, make sure to finish all upgrades before banishing the troupe, as banishing them removes Divine permanently from Dirtmouth.
The Fate of Leg Eater
Upgrading all three charms to their unbreakable forms also triggers a unique storyline conclusion for the original merchant, Leg Eater. After you equip all three unbreakable charms and speak to him, he becomes enticed by Divine's scent and travels to Dirtmouth. Visiting Divine's tent afterward reveals the final resolution of his questline.
